The siren call of Morocco is irresistible. Amid the whitewashed alleyways and stunning ocean views, make time for an optional excursion to the medina of Marrakech, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  Explore the souks and medinas in the footsteps of Sir Winston Churchill and Yves St. Laurent, who both called this extraordinary blend of east and west their home.

DAY 4 AT SEA

DAY 5 AGADIR, MOROCCO

Edged by the mighty Sahara, lush parks, and beautiful, sandy beaches, Agadir brings you the best of all worlds. Shop for exotic jewellery and rugs in Souk Elhad and test your haggling talents. Or try your luck on a surfboard. Slow down and enjoy the view from the site of the old Kasbah, where a panorama of bay, port, and town stretch before you.

DAY 6 LANZAROTE, SPAIN

Nature is the star on this small volcanic island. Enjoy the afternoon on the beach or follow the island’s famous wine trail, tasting as you go. This, the most northerly of the Canary Islands, welcomes you with laid-back hospitality and genuine warmth. This region of petrified lava makes up the National Park of Timanfaya and its Mountains of Fire, where visions of a lifeless, prehistoric earth, with enormous craters of an incandescent red colour, can be seen on a bus or even a camel tour.  This unique atmosphere has made it a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and one of the most impressive natural parks in all of Spain.

DAY 7 LAS PALMAS, SPAIN

Magnificent scenery surrounds you in the capital of Gran Canaria. Two lovely bays and their beautiful beaches frame the city. The Vegueta District, the older quarter of the town, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore its historical and cultural treasures, dating back to the city’s founding in 1478. Enjoy the full day here, lingering, over a café dinner or after-dinner drink before our evening departure.

DAY 8 SAN SEBASTIAN DE LA GOMERA, SPAIN

Though you won’t find canaries here you will find people who can whistle like them. Whistled speech helped shepherds communicate across the steep ravines and in the lush cloud forest of Garajonay National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Columbus paused here on all three voyages so you’re in good company as you explore historic San Sebastián, but with all the natural beauty around, you’ll find your gaze drawn inexorably up the terraced hillsides and across to views of Mount Teide.

DAY 9 SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, SPAIN

Here in this privileged setting you’ll discover two UNESCO World Heritage Site beaches of tantalizing beauty; San Cristóbal de La Laguna; and the island’s symbol, Teide National Park. YACHTING THE GREEK ISLES

Based on the Windstar Cruise Fleet

Athens – Mykonos – Santorini – Rhodes – Kalymnos – Nafplio - Athens

A single voyage covers thousands of years of civilization's greatest feats – from the Acropolis of Athens to the blue domes of Santorini. Explore the tiny streets and narrow alleys of Mykonos, and escape to Delos, the fabled island of Apollo, where you'll walk in the ancient footsteps of the gods. Listen for echoes of history as you explore smaller hidden ports like Nafplio, and treat yourself to superlative grilled seafood, accompanied by an ouzo salute to the sunset. From the dramatic mountains of Kalymnos to the medieval city of Rhodes, discover the Greek Isles as they were meant to be travelled, in sailing yacht style.

DETAILED ITINERARY

DAY 1 ATHENS, GREECE

With 3,000 years of history, you can’t turn around in Athens without encountering the past. The Acropolis, a UNESCO site, the Plaka, and the Acropolis Museum are must-sees. But leave time if you can to climb Pnyx Hill for photos of the Parthenon at sunset, to buy your own set of Greek komboloi (worry beads), and to explore the metro stations that serve as mini-museums for the relics that are constantly being unearthed.

DAY 2 MYKONOS, GREECE

Wake this morning to the postcard-like scene of Mykonos, the classic Greek isle dotted with hundreds of whitewashed churches and thatch-roofed windmills, in a harbour bobbing with fishing boats and luxurious private yachts. An optional tour including a scenic ferry ride takes you back to the 6th century B.C. to the tiny island of Delos, a UNESCO site and the mythical birthplace of Apollo

DAY 3 SANTORINI, GREECE

As our yacht approaches the spectacular cliffs rising from the deep azure sea, you’ll understand the magic of this area, where some say the ruins of Atlantis remain hidden. Visit the village of Oia and see the iconic Santorini blue domes or take a guided tour of Bronze Age excavations at the UNESCO site of Akrotiri. Toast the day with a crisp, cold glass of local Assyrtiko wine.

DAY 4 RHODES, GREECE

This gracious oasis, known as the “Island of Roses,” was home to the legendary Colossus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Today it is a yachting paradise, whose shores are lined with sparkling beaches and lush green mountainsides. A scenic drive leads you through quaint villages and lemon groves to the ancient Acropolis of Lindos, standing guard over the picturesque town or to the Old City of Rhodes, a UNESCO World Heritage Site

DAY 5 KALYMNOS, GREECE

Tucked away in the sunniest corner of Greece and off the beaten path, Kalymnos is known as the home of the sponge fishermen. Walk past the grand mansions built from the proceeds of sponge trade, and don’t miss the Hellenistic bronze statue known as the “Lady of Kalymnos” at the archaeological museum, another treasure fetched from the sea in a fisherman’s net. Finish the day with a stop at the local market for a spongy souvenir and a taste of wild thyme honey.

DAY 7 NAFPLIO, GREECE

This charming seaside town on the Peloponnese is one of the most romantic cities in Greece. Enjoy the medieval old town with narrow cobblestone alleys, and neoclassical mansions with bougainvillea trees adorning the balconies. Take an optional tour to the UNESCO site of Epidaurus or the UNESCO site of Mycenea, ancient ruins including the famous Lion’s Gate. Stroll the Syntagma Square and take in the beauty of the Palamidi Castle with its 999 steps carved from the rocks. The view is breathtaking.

DAY 8 ATHENS, GREECE

With 3,000 years of history, you can’t turn around in Athens without encountering the past. The Acropolis, a UNESCO site, the Plaka, and the Acropolis Museum are must-sees. But leave time if you can to climb Pnyx Hill for photos of the Parthenon at sunset, to buy your own set of Greek komboloi (worry beads), and to explore the metro stations that serve as mini-museums for the relics that are constantly being unearthed.
